Our profile
The Chair of Imaging and Computer Vision (LfB) is part of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology of RWTH Aachen. We cover the entire spectrum of medical and biomedical imaging, from acquisition through reconstruction and analysis to the communication of the data.
Research Focus
Our research combines engineering, physics and data science in six focus areas: the imaging modalities magnetic resonance imaging, magnetic particle imaging and positron emission tomography, biomedical image and data analysis, and image and video communication. In addition there is the focus area Physical AI & Robotics: there we transfer the same methods – sensor fusion, representation learning, real-time signal processing – to robots that combine visual, linguistic and bodily perception into actions.
Image and video communication
Video data volume and resolution have grown continuously for years. Compression therefore directly determines the cost of storage and transmission networks. Modern codecs…
Biomedical Image and Data Analysis
Imaging provides data, but insight only emerges through analysis. The group processes microscopic and histological images quantitatively in order to…
Magnetic Particle Imaging
Magnetic Particle Imaging (MPI) is an innovative medical imaging technology that visualizes the spatial distribution of superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) with high resolution…
Low-Field MRI
Over the years, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has advanced primarily through ever stronger magnetic fields. Higher field strengths improve signal quality…
Physical AI & Robotics
A robot in a kitchen, a laboratory, or an operating room faces situations that no one has programmed in advance. It must…
Positronen-Emissions-Tomographie (PET)
Positron emission tomography reveals metabolic processes. A radioactively labeled tracer accumulates in the target tissue; upon decay, two oppositely directed gamma rays are produced, which…
